Te Kotahi Oranga is a brand-new Student-Assisted Clinic based at Wintec, Rotokauri.

The clinic is founded on strong collaborative community partnerships and extensive research. It seeks to provide high quality, evidence-based healthcare using a low or no-cost model to a high health needs community.

The focus of Te Kotahi Oranga clinic is interprofessional practice, where students studying health and sport-related disciplines will undertake their placements and learn in a supervised working clinic.

Services we offer:

The current focus areas for referral to Te Kotahi Oranga are:

  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • Falls assessment and prevention
  • Adult asthma and COPD

The pilot for this ground-breaking, community health education model is currently underway, and a brand-new purpose-built clinic is due for completion in 2023.

 About the role:

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who has a big heart for students, the community we serve and is passionate about interprofessional practice. 

There are 3 main parts to this role:

  • Work in the clinic with clients/whānau
  • Work with the students on placement in the clinic – supporting them to take the lead in client care, enabling learning and development, empowering them to be the best clinicians that they can be
  • Contribute to the design, development and ongoing growth of the clinic in conjunction with the rest of the clinic and research team

In addition to the above, the Occupational Therapist will work in partnership with the rest of the clinic team to contribute to the creation of a positive clinical, learning, and research environment, professional standards, high-quality research and community requirements. You will apply a variety of quality teaching and learning strategies underpinned by sound educational theory to support the interprofessional focus of the clinic.

A solutions-focused mindset will come naturally to you, and you will be comfortable working in a small team. You will be able to multitask, and you will possess excellent communication and explanatory skills in order to participate and contribute to a positive workplace and student learning culture. You will be extremely community and student focused.
