About the role

This Executive Dean role will drive exceptional learner experience and lead change in vocational and higher education. You will make a valuable contribution socially and economically, leading at the forefront of educational development. Through active engagement, you will co-create significant opportunities within our Waikato communities.

As Aotearoa New Zealand’s vocational education sector transforms to a national institute, we require a strong and capable educational leader willing to take a fresh perspective and approach. You will be required to lead and manage within the rapidly changing vocational and higher education environment developing strategies that enable us to provide sustainable educational provisions for the region with a strong focus on equity and the quality of our learners’ experiences.

Wintec has a single Executive Dean across eleven teaching centres. This means through collective collaboration, the successful candidate will be uniquely placed to have significant impact on learners and communities across the region. This is a senior executive leadership position, reporting directly to the Chief Executive.

 

The Executive Dean – Learner Success will be responsible for:

·Leading education through effective relationships and partnerships enabling a collective culture of collaboration.

·Providing strong educational experience and academic leadership to lead change and achieve learner success.

·Translating strategy into action by leading the development, planning and execution of Faculty strategic and operational business plans.

·Building research capability in industry and workforce related research, driving business growth, innovation and continuous improvement.

·Enabling and promoting a culturally responsive environment by advocating learner success equity where all learners reach their potential, achieving our aspirations for Māori and Pasifika success.

·Building cohesive teams with a shared vision and purpose.

·Leading change, positioning people and teams to shape, define and respond to the future modelling of the higher education sector, whilst managing ambiguity and the pace of change with a growth-mindset and resilience.

·Ensuring maintenance of the accreditation status of vocational and higher education programs including compliance with all regulations.

·Role modelling best practices in workplace health and safety and ensuring teams have this at the forefront of learners’ success.

 

Are you an ideal candidate?

We are looking for a leader with an advanced level education tertiary qualification and substantial experience in leading higher education transformation programmes.  Previous experience in a senior leader role in a higher educational setting is ideal.

Candidates of interest will have a deep understanding of learner success and know what is required to achieve equitable and quality academic outcomes to meet the needs of those we serve. We are interested in a leader who can take their genuine care and interest and turn it into positive results across the wide variety of contexts within which Wintec teaches.

Developing our capability to build iwi partnerships and reflect commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi is close to our heart at Wintec, and a leader with proven skills and experience to lead our growth as a bicultural organisation will be essential. Proven educational leadership and experience in applied research, building capability in industry and workforce related research that achieves business growth, innovation and continuous improvement is desired.
